Engelbert DeWit leads a ceramics studio that creates unique, handcrafted pieces inspired by nature, the authenticity of materials, and timeless aesthetics. At the heart of the creative process lies the Japanese Raku technique, one of the oldest and most extraordinary methods of firing ceramics. During this process, glowing red-hot ceramics are removed from the kiln and placed into a smoke-filled environment, where fire, air, and natural materials work together to create unique crackle surfaces and metallic shades. The outcome can never be precisely replicated, making each creation truly one of a kind.
DeWit’s collection includes vases, sculptural objects, and decorative pieces that highlight the beauty of imperfection and handmade craftsmanship. Every piece bears the distinctive marks of its production process and captures the unique relationship between clay, fire, and the maker.
